Ted Joans, a painter, trumpet player, jazz poet, and travel writer, is the author of more than thirty-five books. Born in Cairo, Illinois, in 1928, Joans earned his BFA from Indiana University in 1951 and then moved to Greenwich Village, where he was associated with Jack Kerouac and other members show more of the Beat generation of the 1950s. show less
