What I always liked about Cassie Alexander it's that there is no glamour, glory or some sort of higher purpose to her supernaturals. They are nasty, vicious motherf*ckers and unapologetic to a boot. I LOVE it.
Here it is again then. Poor Edie is turned into a daytimer, so she and her baby could be saved from the virus she got infected with in a previous book. However her friendly vampire Anna is not there to bind her to herself, instead she pulls the strings so her rival and enemy Raven show more will do it instead.
That opens a whole can of worms for Edie, Anna and Asher, and Edie needs to be prepared to do anything to survive her moody, conniving master, his jealous daytimers and his unhinged scientist whose experiments have potential to change the world for the worse.
Add to it Shadows catching a ride along with Edie and a strange vampire invading her dreams, throw in a conspiracy, and well... in a classic manner for Miss Alexander, our favourite nurse's hands are full.
This is dark, chilling and gory. Edie despite being tougher to kill in Bloodshifted is still very much human, weak and very, very scared. She is scared for her baby and she is scared that Raven's mind-control will make her work against Anna and people she loves, and she is determined to do everything in her power to stop him.
Cassie Alexander's style brings you back to early urban fantasy, when a reader took nothing for granted. Forget glamorised seduction, luxurious living and angst among monsters. This is down and dirty and very honest, and your humble servant enjoyed it immensely. Highly recommended. show less

Love this book. While it is short, I never felt like it was rushed or that I missed anything. If you like your men or monsters to be grumpy, then, you will love Aceon. Yet, underneath his tough exterior is a softie.
I thought that the fact that Satin is blind was a unique aspect to the story. It made Aceon and her connect on a more intimate level than a physical one. When she would touch Aceon and explore every inch of him that was HOT!
Just because Satin is blind does not mean that she is show more weak. She is strong and intelligent. She was the dominant one between her and Aceon. While this may be a romance story, it has a good storyline to it as well. Looking for your next quick read, pick up a copy of this book. To quote Aceon..."Monsters are a roar and never a bore" show less

This is one of the few series, my dear readers, where each consecutive book is much stronger than the previous one. Kate Daniels by Ilona Andrews is another series that comes to mind.
Cassie Alexander likes shaking things up. Her heroine not only goes from bad to worse, she also changes locations and her situation just when we start feeling comfortable about it. And damn, for a change, this is sooo good!
Deadshifted is one of the best urban fantasies I've read in a while. The whole thing show more happens on a cruise ship, for God's sake! How fantastic is that?
Archer, Edie's shapeshifter boyfriend surprises her with a romantic cruise to Hawaii, and for once Edie is looking forward to some relaxation time with her steady and suave man candy. However, everything goes to shit pretty quickly when first Archer recognises a villain he dealt with in his previous "incarnation" as one of the guests on the cruise and then kids begin falling ill and die one after another, and the whole cruise ship becomes one eery, dangerous quarantine zone.
With Archer trying to find out what's going on under his guise as a doctor, Edie is left to her own devices with passengers throwing themselves overboard, attacking each other for food or spilling their guts in hot tubs all around her.
Even Edie who is used to all sort of disgusting, horrible things from her job as a nurse is taken aback and is really very afraid. The death toll goes higher and higher, there is no sign of Archer, and along with a crippled old couple and an orphaned little girl she has to find a way to survive and get off the goddamn cruise ship.
Gripping, suspenseful, scary and with an unbelievable twist in the end, this is a glorious read! Highly recommended, and I honestly cannot wait to see what comes next. show less

Want to spend some time with a person who absolutely, totally, sincerely believes IT.IS.ALL.ABOUT.ME? If so, Photobomb is for you. Nearly everything Lara Simon thinks or says or creates or writes or does is outrageous, but to her it’s as it should be: she’s right, she knows best, she knows what others should do, and she almost always gets what she wants.
The audiobook of Photobomb moves at lightning speed. It’s just one event or thought or plan or action after another. Narrator Bunny show more Warren grabs your attention with her whiny, petulant, obsessive, jealous, narcissistic delivery and never lets go. The tone, the pacing, the volume – all perfect. You try to understand Lara or begin to feel sorry for her, but then Bunny Warren makes her speak again and you wonder how anything in her life can come to a good end.
Photobomb isn’t just a story about a talented yet spoiled teenager who may or may not be grieving the loss of her sister and who lives in her own little fantasy world where she is The Boss. No, it’s a fast-paced psychological thriller with so many twists and turns you are constantly on the edge of your seat.
If you are looking for something just a little different, something exciting and riveting, then this audiobook is for you. I received an advance listening copy of Photobomb from Home Cooked Books. I voluntarily leave this review; all opinions are my own. show less
