I got this book as part of the Early Reviewers Group and it was a real struggle to get through. The beginning, especially, was overwritten and had poor pacing. "His dark curls twitched in the lamplight, the flickering light changing the tangles into a dark halo." Mmkay, great. But an entire book full of that? It seemed to get better as the book went on, or perhaps I just got used to it. I thought the plot was very slow to start off with and I had trouble caring about the characters' problems show more because I didn't like them. Maybe the author should have started off with something a bit more sympathetic than grave robbing?

By the end, I was interested in what happened to the characters though and the plot seemed to pick up. If this book consisted only of the second half of the novel, it would be a much better read.

I received this book as part of the Early Reviewers Group. The book wasn't terrible, but it lacked some clarity. I was mildly confused throughout the book due to a lack of details and context about the world I was reading about. The issues and plot of the book are interesting, if a bit underdeveloped. The writing style and pace of the story keeps the reader interested.

The Jealousy Glass
Artifacts of Empire Book two
By Gwen Perkins

Asahel and Felix barely escape a shipwreck; the two depend on each other to get back to civilization in order to survive. Once they are back they must walk a fine line as political tension is rampant in Anjdur between the Empress and those who wish her dead.

Ok so I missed a lot by not reading the first book, this book jumps right into the middle of the story as Asahel and Felix are on their merry way and the ship they are on is show more soon tossed to the bottom of the sea. The author didn’t do a very good job in “playing catch up” so if you haven’t read the first I certainly suggest it. Otherwise I liked this book, from the subtle M/M Romance (a romance that revolves around two Males) to the high octane action this is certainly a unique novel. I truly wish I had read the first though the story seems so interesting but confusing as there are times that I have no idea what Gwen Perkins is talking about. This is definitely an amazing adventure novel with strong religious undertones as well as sexuality, if either of these topics offend you or may be a touchy subject for you skip it otherwise this is a must read!

I received this book from the Early Reviewer Program. I love fantasy novels and this one was good. It lacked a little in details though. I think the world could have been expanded on a bit and the characters needed more depth. I had a hard time finding one that I was rooting for. The concept was good and the story was interesting. I would try another book by this author.
