I liked the book, “Lights Out Shabbat” because it is a great story for children to read and learn about the Jewish culture. This book captures the significance of Shabbat, as a day of rest, while captivating the idea of family time and giving thanks. This book is perfect for a shared reading lesson since the students are able to join in when reading the repetitive phrase, “But the lights did not come on.” In addition to this, the pictures were colorful and well detailed, depicting show more the story very well. I especially liked the illustration of the young boy and his Nana making shadows upon the wall from the candlelight. I clearly remember my sisters and I always doing this when the power went out. I think the main message of this story was to bring about the holiday of Shabbat, while emphasizing family value and time. show less
