This story is about the world cup and it talks about the brilliant players , fantastic football hours of spectacular play. There have been 17 world cup competitions since 1930. Brilliant players, fantastic football, thousand of goals and plenty of stories. The world cup has caused lots of arguments there have been fouls and red cards, fights and on the pitch, fights off the pitch and it has even caused murders. In 1994 Andres Escobar scored an own goal when he returned to Colombia he was show more shot dead. War broke out between El Salvador and Honduras after a World Cup game. The world cup was invented by two Frenchmen Henri Delaunay was the secretary of FIFA; Jules Rimet was the President of FIFA. IT was established in 1904 they wanted to hold a World Cup but only seven countries joined FIFA. In 1908 the Olympic Games were held in London. The first proper World Cup was held in 1930. There were lots of arguments. So the first World Cup was played in Uruguay. Italy, Spain, Holland and Sweden refused to go. They said South America was too far away. Only 13 nations entered. The next World Cup was played in Italy in 1934, they won the World Cup that year they beat Czechoslovakia 2-1 in the final. In 1938 the World Cup was held in France, Italy won once more they beat Hungary 4-2 in the final. There were no World Cup competitions during the War. In 1950 it was held in Brazil. Twelve teams pulled out at the last minute. In the end there were only 13 teams, they played in league England were there for the first time but they didn't do very well they even lost 0-1 to the USA. The next World Cup was held in Switzerland in 1954 it was the first World Cup to be shown on TV. Brazil were knocked out by Hungary but West Germany beat Hungary 3-2 in the final. In 1958 Brazil had two secret weapons they played a new 4-2-4 formation and they had a brilliant teenage player his name was Pele. In 1962, other teams tried to beat the Brazilians by fouling Pele was kicked a lot he didn't finish the World Cup but Brazil still won they beat Czechoslovakia 3-1 in the final. In 1966 the World Cup came home to the birthplace of football. England had beaten West Germany 4-2 and England was World Champions. For the next 20 years the World Cup was dominated by four countries three from Europe and one from South America. In 1994 Brazil beat Italy on penalties; it was the fourth time they had won the World Cup in 1994 Brazil beat Italy on penalties. It was the fourth time they had won the World Cup. In 1998 they reached the final again but they had to play France. They had invented the World Cup Now they were World Champions. The 2002 World Cup was played in two countries, half the games were played in Japan and the other half of the game were played in South Korea. In 2006 the World Cup was held in Germany. These days over 150 countries take part and mort than a billion people watch it on TV. Football is still the beautiful game and the World Cup is still the greatest sporting event in the world.
