Imagine a doctor who does not sugarcoat his responses, who has many different interests outside of the practice of medicine, who has a sense of humor and who most of all cares about his patients and his community and you have imagined Tim Lepore, MD. The author takes you on a journey involving Dr. Lepore, the island community of Nantucket and the many characters and events that make island living unique. It gives you an insight into living on Nantucket from those who make it their home show more year-round and are not just there to visit on a weekend in the summer. I listened to the audio version of this book and it was well done. show less
When I first started this book, I did not realize that the story was a biographer. This was a huge disappointment, as I like to “feel” a connection with the subject and see how their lives might impact me. The title made the book sound exciting, yet when played out these events were quite boring. Belluck is not a strong writer as her plotting was haphazard. In fact the words and sentences began to blur into each other without anything jumping out as interesting. She does not include a show more lot of the doctor’s thoughts or opinions. In fact she makes him sound average and downright bland. Next time I will do more homework before buying a biography. Maybe it is autobiographies from here on out…. show less
