The needlework doctor : how to solve every kind of needlework problem by Mary Kay Davis

This book is a very good guide to best needlework practices in 1982. Some things are no longer as accurate as they could be, because time and materials have moved on, and sometimes we now have better methods for things. However, if you follow these instructions you won't go wrong. If you check new instructions against these, common sense should let you see whether you have found an improved method, or whether someone has come up with a new way of messing up your stitching.
