Aptly named, The Opportunist is a well-written guilty pleasure with a rather unlikable main character who is pretty much willing to do whatever it takes to get what she wants. I don't really like the storyline or the characters that much, but something about this novel is very compelling...though I cringe at most of what goes on.
It's very hard to feel sorry for "the opportunist" because she thinks only of herself and does horrible things in the name of love (a love which seems more like an show more obsession than genuine caring and affection.) Women (and how they treat each other) do not come across very well in this highly addictive "but I shouldn't be reading this" novel.
The further along I got in The Opportunist the more I found myself really admiring the style and heart of it. Some of the feelings Olivia experienced struck me hard with their universality; even if I never did come around to liking her, I can't help but understand that intense emotions often make us do insane things that we aren't proud of. show less

This psychological thriller offers a riveting journey into the depths of Iris Walsh's quest for truth following the mysterious disappearance of her twin, Piper. Set against the haunting backdrop of Shoal Island's asylum, the story masterfully blurs the lines between sanity and the unknown, reminiscent of classic thrillers. Fisher's knack for creating an immersive atmosphere shines through, drawing the reader into a complex web of suspense and intrigue. The story's twists, especially the show more final reveal, aim to astonish and add unexpected depth to the story. Despite minor pacing issues, the novel's compelling storyline and richly drawn characters stand out, leaving a lasting impression. show less
Darn you Tarryn.....Darn you to Hell
(Insert evil clapping dude)
I HATE you, but I also LOVE you so much Who do you think you are?? How dare you throw those curve balls and smash all my hopes and dreams of a happily ever after out the window!! GAH
I wanted to throw in the towel at 25%, I wanted to end the madness my mind couldn't quite grasp. Luckily my fellow GR-ers told me to keep going, not to quit. No one show more likes a quitter right? RIGHT? So I stuck to it, and I am both happy and disappointed that I did. One I couldn't disrespect Miss Fisher that way, and Two it freaking Tarryn Fisher for Pete's sake!! The story was written beautifully. Astonishing really. The mind of Senna drove me mad. I hated her mostly. Then in the end I Loved her.
What really was her story? What did Nick do to damage her beyond repair? I understand she had mommy issues, her body was violated both by force and by chance. She was selfish, stubborn and was actually very brilliant however her character depicted a woman of few words. At times I thought there was so much fluff or beautiful words the content of the story lacked.
It was almost anticlimactic in the end, I wanted MORE (I am selfish like that). However I ended up giving 4 stars because I could not put it down. It was just to beautifully written. I wanted Isaac to end up on top. I loved him! "Simplicity speaks the loudest". This book was simple yet it made your mind wander in space constantly replaying on repeat until you went crazy. I had so many other endings. I thought I knew for sure who the kidnapper was. I was wrong (obviously) and was somewhat pleasantly surprised. I kind of wanted to know her story crazy twat.
In the end, I loved it. I would highly recommend. show less

My brain is sometimes like a rogue Rubik's cube. It twists until it finds a pattern

I didn't know what was what till the end, I mean I kept going back and forth on who the real villain was but the author did an awesome job. If you like psychological thrillers this is the book to read. I show more couldn't put it down, finished it in one day . show less
