Simplistic yet a fun read. This was a kindle freebie that I read while having a head cold. I wasn't looking for something that required much concentration but was still interesting. It fit the bill perfectly! My only real objection was to the main character's romantic involvement storyline (and that is just a personal preference and conviction.) One thing that I appreciated was despite choosing Hawaii as the setting, the author did not fall too far into the trap of trying to go "local" in show more her dialect. Like me, some may find her local characters to be sterotypical but perhaps only meant to give "island flavor" to the plot? It would have been nice to have positive strong local characters like the majority of people living in Hawaii.
I would read the other books in the series for more entertainment and lighthearted reading. show less

This is the last in the Sarah Woods trilogy. I will really miss Sarah Woods.
This installment has Sarah on a vaction in Hawaii, hopefully to see if she can save her marriage or if she even wants to. But, when she runs into Carter, she realizes she was set up. Max also has been invited to help out with this case.
A small boy has gone missing. Sarah's job is to go undercover to see if the child's father has the child or knows anything about his disapperance.
In this case, Sarah and Max work show more together more than with Carter. We find out a bit more about Carter's personal life and the situation with Sarah's marriage finally comes to a head.
The "mature" Sarah is sort of a role model for those of us who have near grown children or adult children. After devoting so much of your time being a parent, we can now devote a little time to ourselves. Also, I loved how Sarah was a regular girl, but although she is now in her forties, she is still attractive to the opposite sex, and a younger man to boot.
She also isn't afraid to try new things.
My only complaint about this book, was that Sarah went off script a bit in the beginning. She made a few comments and practically offered to do the unthinkable to help out with the case. That behavior didn't really jibe with the Sarah I knew from the first two installments. I also don't really know how I feel about the end result of the case they were working on.
But, overall I still found the book satisfying. I hope that Sarah pays us a visit again now and then.
Overall a B+ show less

This book was light and remarkably easy to get into. I read it in just a couple of hours and felt attuned to the emotions of the lead female role, Vanessa from the first few lines. You experience her anger at her husband for leaving her for another woman that he refuses to name, to daring to let go of her prim professionalism when her niece gives her a gift for her fortieth birthday of lessons in Burlesque. It has some heart-warming moments of personal growth in it as she maneuvers through a show more divorce to a possible second chance at love. show less
When you win a trip to Hawaii with a husband you no longer love, is it a win? Well, there's more to the prize than meets Sarah's expectations. A client paid for the whole deal - the string?
Is her marriage falling apart because of all the secrets? Her husband doesn't know she's working for a PI, or that she's putting her life on the line while he tries to recover from a strained muscle. Or maybe her marriage is falling apart because they don't love each other and haven't for a long show more time.
Putting aside her personal problems is easy when there's a case to solve, and she has a sexy partner to distract her. But finding a child who's been lost this long is almost impossible. Spoiled clients, bodies piling up, and a case that defies solving sours the paradise of Sarah's vacation.
I recommend this book to anyone who likes a bit of grit in their mystery and a realistic backdrop of the effects of being a secret investigator. show less
