Lovestrong is an inspiring true story of the struggle for a woman to become a doctor in the early 70's when medical schools tried very hard to discourage women from becoming a doctor. Dorothy Greenbaum had been a school teacher when she realized that wasn't what she was destined to do-- she knew she wanted to be a doctor. Juggling married life with a young daughter, she enrolled to become a physician. She details all of the obstacles that were in here way including those posed by the show more university itself. She was a picture of grit and determination to accomplish her dream, and it helped that she had a very supportive husband who helped her to achieve her goal. Great book. show less
I never knew that this was originally a book. I’ve only ever know it as a movie and then Wicked. I want to read the original now! I’m fascinated by the analysis that it’s actually the “Good” people who are “Wicked” … so reading the original and analyzing it. Makes me appreciate my English degree that I can do that :-)

Black Beauty is a book I’d never read before. This adapted version was good enough for me. Such a difficult read! To realize horses, all animals, used to be treated so poorly :-( and also to realize, at the time of Black Beauty’s original publishing, slavery was still very much legal and human beings were being treated with the same cruelty!
