Overall little happy aspects to this book. Our fox like dog named Kit escapes his junk yard owner who kicks her when she isn't mean enough. Kit lives a feral life. A farmyard boy sees her but doesn't have any luck befriending the dog. The dog meets up with some other feral dogs who chase deer so the other dogs get shot and killed but not before Kit gets pregnant. She has puppies but a bobcat gets to them while she is out hunting and kills all of the puppies but one. Kit takes the last puppy show more to the farmhouse where the boy lets her and the puppy into the barn and hopes to befriend Kit. The end.

And the charcoal drawings are not that wonderful either. show less
