The illustrations are fun, mostly to see how our grandmothers' dolls were dressed and what their own clothes and toys might have looked like.
The language is prosaic and only mediocre; the author makes no attempt to be poetic, but describes briefly and literally how a child might play with her dolls. It is somewhat didactic.
It is not really an ABC as the dolls' names are used for most letters, sometimes the letter starts a verb, and sometimes there is not much of a connection at all.
Cover states this book is "our version" of the 1905 antique. Originally it was given gratis by a cigarette maker as an advertisement. Catalog description: "Fatima doing ... an exercise dance." Merrimack no. 70237.
