Doyle McCoy (1917–2005)

This small book is easily portable, and contains a great many species that are commonly encountered in the southern Great Plains. The pictures are in color, the descriptions are very useful. The one real downside is the spiral binding, which has an unfortunate tendancy to come apart.

Good, easy to use reference. Some of the scientific names have been changed, but that can be filled in later from more up to date wources. I have used this field guide frequently, not just in Oklahoma but in the surrounding states.

This book is lightweight and convenient for field use; it is also easy to use, and includes color pictures, which makes it helpful for amateurs as well as professionals.

A very good, usable reference to identification of trees and shrubs in Okiahoma and the surrounding states.
