First-person narration is really hard to pull off, especially in a detective novel where the author knows who the killer is and is trying to drop subtle hints along the way. Egypt Rosen comes off as a smug, sarcastic character. I almost gave up on this book after a chapter or so, but then decided to stick with it. I won’t say I regret the decision, necessarily, but Egypt is no Columbo, no matter how hard Palamountain wants her to be.
A cozy mystery, a reporter/sleuth concerned about personal health issues, and a sheriff with romantic intentions investigating 3 local deaths.

The eccentric characters of a cozy are represented in the names of various characters, i.e. Deputy Swicegood, Mayor Walkup, and the initial impression by the reporter that Sheriff Duffy is small-town/small-minded.

Overall, an enjoyable read relying on the suggested power of logic. Of course, the clues that lead to that logic are only enumerated in the show more denouement.
I still can't decide if the character Egypt Rosen (Egypt Rosen Chronicles was used to introduce this as a possible spin-off and new series that the author never capitalized on.

Quite an interesting read of two young girls who were running away from polygamy I think it was an interesting read and enjoyed it. I loved the idea of the wilderness and I also loved that the story was about two young girls who stood for what they believed. I thought it was a brilliant read.
This was a decent read. Interesting and nothing earth shattering but I will definitely read another book by this author. The characters were interesting and the the book mystery was great.
