This collection of articles brings together diverse and innovative perspectives on the West's most known composer, providing music lovers with a richer knowledge of Beethoven - as man, musician, and phenomenon. The essays cover various aspects including the heroic Beethoven and his connections with the world at large.
The ca. dozen essays in this volume give an in-depth assessment of the work of Charlotte Salomon . I did not read all of them as they demand thorough study. Some of them, in particular the two introductory essays by the editors are a valuable introduction and, I think, indispensable in approaching Salomon’s multi-layered work. To benefit from the dense essay by Griselda Pollock familiarity with G.P.’s previous work and that of Walter Benjamin is required.
An academic collection of papers of interest only to the specialist or collector.
