This book was fun to read. More than once in almost every chapter I found myself laughing and reading off sections to my wife (much to her annoyance). One issue I had with this book was that of it's age. Linux moves quickly, yet after 8 years of updates and additions, much of this book holds true in a general sense.
I think that this book serves as a great introduction to what Linux is/was, how it works, and why so many people get excited about it. Because it uses a fun conversational tone it show more is accessible to both less geeky readers and fun for those who may know most of what it contains. It managed to be an enjoyable read while not losing its direction in being a guide to open source and the joy of Linux. show less

Although not technical at all, it is a good primer to the philosophy of open source in general and Linux in particular.
