Okay so I am kind of embarrassed that I am about to give a periodic table wizard book five stars. But here we are. Magical Elements of the Periodic Table Presented By The Alchemical Wizards Book 2 is basically 21 little elementals doing a science show and tell while cosplaying as adorable chaos gremlins with staffs. The vibe is very much No Metal, No Magic, and No Technology and honestly that slogan has no right going that hard.
It starts by throwing Arkyn at you with Arsenic, like hello yes show more let us begin with poison, terrific choice, no notes. He is labelled the Arsenic Wizard and his whole deal is making clouds of dangerous gas and messing with bad guys while the page also quietly tells you arsenic facts and real uses, including wood preservation and special optic glass for infrared stuff. So you get the fun fantasy wrapper and then bam, knowledge.
Each element page has this neat rhythm: facts, magical abilities, uses, and a did you know section, plus these cute little pictures that make it feel like trading cards for nerds. Also, the girl wizards are not just standing there looking pretty. They are doing the science and the magic too, which my cranky feminist heart appreciates.
Is it deep literature? No. Did it make me weirdly delighted and slightly smarter? Absolutely, yes. show less

Magical Elements of the Periodic Table Presented by the Actinide Knights is a creative and informative introduction to chemistry designed to make the periodic table more approachable for young readers. This book is part of a larger series, with other elements explored in companion titles, and it served as my first introduction to the author’s work.

The book is fairly show more text-heavy, but the content is engaging and thoughtfully structured. Each featured element is paired with a knight character, complete with fun facts, real-world uses, and clear explanations of what the element is and how it functions.

A clever detail I appreciated is that when an element is nonmetallic, its knight has no magic, an intuitive way to reinforce scientific concepts through storytelling.

Multiple artists contributed to the book, yet the illustrations remain cohesive overall, which helps maintain immersion.

The educational value really shines at the end of the book: there’s a clear breakdown of how to read and use the periodic table, making it helpful both for beginners and as a refresher for those who’ve encountered it before.

An alphabetical “cheat sheet” of elements is also included, which is especially useful if you’re searching for a specific element.

Overall, this is a fun, imaginative, and educational way to introduce children to the periodic table. It successfully blends creativity with science, making chemistry feel less intimidating and much more magical. show less

A fun and clever techno-magical interpretation of elements of the Periodic Table.

The latest book in author Sybrina Durant’s Metal Horn Unicorns series, Magical Elements of The Periodic Table, focuses on introducing budding young scientists to the mysteries of the renowned Periodic Table by pairing an alphabetical assortment of 26 elements with the magical unicorn of the Metal Horn Tribe that carries a horn made of the specific element. This unique approach, with its whimsical illustrations show more and treasure trove of interesting facts about each featured element, is sure to attract the attention and engage the imagination of tweens and middle-graders who may have not yet been exposed to the subject in such an easy-to-read and understand format. With its up-to-date facts, even adults will discover something they didn’t know.

Each page features information about a single element on the Periodic Table, selected to represent a letter of the alphabet. The facts about each element are detailed and interesting. Additional elements occasionally make a cameo appearance at the top of a page, where the name of the highlighted unicorn is spelled out using the elements’ letter symbols.

The illustrations are hands-down amazing! Intricate details can be found on every page. Be sure to look at the frames that border each page and the smaller ones that highlight each unicorn’s special information. The artist has taken special care to personalize the artwork to match what is presented on the page. My favorites include the bordering frame for nickel and smaller frames surrounding Fleure and Vana, but all are great! Also, check out the subtle difference in Unicorn Wolfie’s appearance! (Look at his muzzle.)

With its colorful illustrations and fascinating supporting facts, I recommend MAGICAL ELEMENTS OF THE PERIODIC TABLE to upper-elementary and middle-grade readers interested in the sciences.
