The very best travel stories - to my mind - encompass not only the raw experience of the author's immersion in other places and cultures, but also relate a journey of spirit, an unfolding of ideas and beliefs and feeling. Ailsa Piper's account of her forty three days on the pilgrimage trail from Granada to Santiago de Compostela is a lesson in the fragility of plans, and hopes and life itself. But every day she faces the road ahead, hard as it may be,step after step, and so we all go on, show more with as much grace as we can muster, and if we open ourselves to it, a world of goodwill to receive and share - sunlight and shadow, and sunlight. Hugely recommended.
