I actually own the 1942 edition of this book in harcover. a nice read, though the notation is not Algebraic, Staunton's introduction and theory on piece movement is very entertaining.
Book Description: Frederick A. Stokes & Brothers, 1888. Hardcover. Good/No Dust Jacket. First Edition (?). 4to. This small and well used volume has worn corners bumped and worn spine with the word 'chess' written in a small clear hand in black ink. The front cover is elegantly illustrated showing a chess game in progress and indicating that white can checkmate in four moves. The back cover has been scrapped and the underlying cardboard exposed in one small area. 215 pages.
