Typical Chomskyan theorizing about arcane language operations with no proof beyond the carefully chosen sentences the author made up to prove his point. Nothing psychologically or even linguistically valid in my opinion. Still useful to look at and see a too-common approach to language "proofs". Not so far from what prescriptivists still do as these scholars thought.
