I added this to my library because of the Italian immigrant subject matter and the Italian American author, and its constant presence on Italian American reading lists. After the first two or three pages, I was tempted to put it down because the style was distracting, driving me nuts in fact. However, I thought I had to go far enough in to figure out what was driving me away, and after the six or seventh page I was hooked. A memoir inside a fictional story set in Chicago in the 1940's and show more 1950's, which did not really help me understand the situation, but the style of writing and presentation of thoughts and characters and happenings is really unique and in its own way compelling. Recommended for that reason, a compelling and unique writing style and presentation. Have fun. show less
for me this is a bit difficult (and boring) to read - I haven't even managed to finish this book.
Maybe I'll try again another time and then I'll change the rating, too?!
