- Morgan grew up on a ranch just outside Grove, Oklahoma. She was the Grove Roundup Club's Rodeo Queen when she was 15 years old -- and she still likes to wear boots and jeans. She's a descendant of The Dalton brothers, which may or may not explain her bent for things western. Morgan picked up her basic knowledge of criminal investigation while she was Chief Dispatcher for a city police department in northeastern Oklahoma, and as permit clerk and dispatcher for the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. While with OHP, she could fire 12 rounds in under 15 seconds using a handgun, and scored 93% target-shooting with a rifle from a cruiser (had to exit cruiser and use door as shield while firing through open window). She and Loren Estleman live on 120 acres in Michigan, in a home that reflects their shared love for antiques. Morgan enjoys photographing other authors and many of those photos have appeared nationally in magazines, newspapers, and on book jackets.
An accomplished poker player, Morgan's been known to match skills with such luminaries as Sara Paretsky, Lawrence Block, and Parnell Hall at the Bouchercon World Mystery Convention.

A former FBI agent, now a professional antique picker, is out to recover a family heirloom purported to have been given to a family member in service to the French royal family by the royals. The woman's father had sold it without her consent in a time when the family struggled financially. It's now up for auction on Mackinac Island. But something is amiss, and when a death occurs, he is able to use his background to help with the investigation. The audiobook narrator did not know how to show more pronounce the setting, and it drove me crazy! show less
This was quite a nice little surprise. I chose this as my audio read to balance the heavier pschycological and fantasy reads I am doing: [A Circle of Souls], [Spellbinder], and even [The Christmas Cookie Club] are all pretty meaty for me.
Anyway this delightful little cozy tells the story of an auction of the Empress Josephine's tea cabaret. I had no idea until I read this that a 'cabaret' is a tea set...and what a specimen this one was.
Our antique dealer Jeff Talbott, a 'retired' FBI agent, show more finds himself on Mackinaw Island in Michigan at a weekend auction when his rival 'picker' and then the auctioneer are found dead.
The supporting cast includes a rich couple who love to dress up, a trio of loony ladies from the South, a stuffy hotel staff, and the local police department who are all too happy to have a 'fed' solve the murders for them.....they haven't had one in almost 50 years!
It was a fun audio, well plotted, and a little deeper than I expected. I'm going to look for more in the series. show less

A former FBI agent now an antiques picker is among those discovering the body of the bait shop owner near their fishing retreat. The female sheriff has suffered a recent bout with cancer but is back on the job and a quite likeable character. As the plot deepens and circumstances really heat up, Jeff calls in his former mentor and partner to assist. The main issue with this one was plausibility (in some places) for me. It held my interest, and the use of antique fishing lures made it unique. show more Technology is probably what dated this novel most. No one uses "Ask Jeeves" anymore and the site became known as ask.com. Still today's users would "google" it. Cell phone technology evolved since this one was written as well. It has been many years since I read the first in this series. Hopefully I'll get to the next one a bit sooner. I listened to the audio version of this one. show less
Ex-FBI agent, Jeff Talbot, is now an antiques picker in Seattle. His friend, Lanny, also a picker, was Jeff's informant in his FBI days. Lanny has been arrested and charged with the murder of an antiques dealer. This was my first by Morgan. Despite a weak plot, poorly developed characters, and being far-fetched, I got a few hours of mild entertainment following the twists.
