San Franciscans Beausoleil to Winans are " in their own way mavericks of the San Francisco poetry scene." This sampling befits their varying ages and life-styles---beat, black, jazz, visionary, hip, feminist, political, satirist. Overall , poems diversify from lyric to political poemscapes where dead comrades go "racing across/ bloodstained clouds their/ bruised feet bring down rain." Essentially without despair, despite anger, defeat, sickness, and sorrow, the voices rise through the crude, show more subline and sensational, with a message about the country and ourselves. from The Booklist, "Small Press Poetry", 2/15/1979 p.909.____Val Morehouse. show less
