The riches to (more) riches story of Liz Tilberis, embedded in the disease narrative of her ovarian cancer. She was reputed to be one of the more human fashion magazine editors and there's a good deal of humanity in this book, together with the expected quota of horn-tooting, PR and name-dropping. Tilberis wrote as if she expected to be working in fashion for another 50 years, but she died a year later - or, more relevantly to the book's concerns, went to join her dear friends the Princess show more of Wales and Gianni Versace. Is it wrong of me to wish she'd said 'what the hell' and written a more daring expose? Or a more structuralist explanation of what it means to have an eye for fashion? The memoir is well constructed and styled by ghostwriter Aimee Lee Ball and kept my attention through a long bureaucratic wait in a room full of screaming children. show less
