I loved this book!!! Lulu McDunn has ten unusual features. But to her they are blessings not hindrances. This is a fantastic counting book, but the self-esteem, self-acceptance lesson is phenomenal too. What a clever, funny way of sending a very important message.
I am a huge fan of Dr. Suess. Though no one will ever be Theodore Giesel, this book definitely has his flavor. The rhyming cuplets and vivid, quirky illustrations make it an incredible read aloud story. I cannot wait to use it at show more my summer camps in about a month.
I definitely think every child should have this book. It would be a perfect gift for a pre-teen girl with image issues. show less

Treasury of Bible Stories Rhythmical Rhymes of Biblical Times by Kelly Pulley is a must have book for your children’s book collection. Because the well-known Bible stories are told in rhyme my boy’s attention was grabbed immediately.
The book is well illustrated with beautiful eye grabbing gorgeous colors. With 351 pages, and a hard cover to make it a sturdy one for little hands. We keep it by his bedside, and is the first book requested each night. A cute and accurate way to bring bible show more stories to life for little ones and the rest of the family, the boys can’t wait to have their story each night and have shown a lot of anticipation. Even our 9 year old is excited by the story told in great way, and they giggle and enjoy the illustrations.
A quote from the back of this book that is so true, “From “The Salty Tale of Noah’s Ark” to “The Lasting Story of the Last Supper,” the rhyming tales in this book remind us that God loves his people!” Amen!

Ten Unusual Features of Lulu McDunn is a rhyming narrative in a sing-song cadence similar to that of a Dr. Seuss book,
"Two was the number of eyes in her head. Her left eye was green and her right eye was red. They were spaced far apart and they weren't quite in line. But to Lulu the two of her eyes matched up fine."
The rhythm is perfect. No practice necessary before reading this one to a group of show more preschoolers.
Counting from 1 to 10, the story describes Lulu's unusual features (and some of them are quite unusual!) and follows each with Lulu's upbeat perspective on each particular anomaly,
"She wasn't embarrassed when people would stare. She was proud of her belly with buttons to spare."
On first reading, the bright and simple comic-style artwork cleverly hides Lulu's unusual features until they are highlighted in the story and revealed one at a time. Only on the final page do we see Lulu sporting everything from 7 hairs on her nose to 4 knobs on each knee. And though, in her entirety, she looks a little peculiar, by the final page, the reader is predisposed to like the cheerful little tyke.
The message of self-acceptance may be a little too obvious here, but the Seussical rhymes will appeal to preschoolers and they will have fun going back through the book and spotting the precursors to the Ten Unusual Features of Lulu McDunn.
