Hurrah for Canadian content. This bulk of this book is divided into themes, for example bathtime, dogs, Halloween, safety. For each theme, it give a list of books to read aloud, other books for one-on-one, nonfiction books, nursery rhymes, fingerplays, songs, games, and a section with more ideas.
There's an index of first lines for the rhymes and songs, and a bibliography sorted by author,
There are a few pages at the beginning on program planning and presentation tips that I found useful as show more a very basic beginner's overview.
The picturebook recommendations are a bit dated, but it does include some Canadian books. The rhymes and songs haven't dated as much, although there are many references to tunes from CDs by Raffi, or Sharon Lois & Bram - you'll want access to those to find out how to sing unfamiliar songs. show less

This excellent resource has the basics on program development and presentation, but its real strength lies in the 200 pages of thematically organized program components: stories, rhymes, fingerplays, songs, and more ideas. It also includes a First Line Index, a list of recommended resources, and a lengthy bibliography of read-alouds and nonfiction, each with a suggested theme.
