I got a bit behind in reading the men's series - this is the second book, and I've read up to the fourth in the women's POV series. I would have said I didn't remember much of the story of Michelle and Emmitt - but I recognized all the events in here, so I guess I did. Interesting, as always, getting the man's POV on an event, and what he thinks was going on, after starting with what the woman thinks is happening. Emmitt is a white knight, and also (despite his frequently expressed show more frustration (expressed to his brother and Wini, not to Michelle)) amazingly patient. Michelle is in a very bad place, having just escaped from serious physical and emotional abuse...by werewolves, physically similar to Emmitt and his kin. She manages to shift her perceptions very fast (not that Emmitt thinks so), and comes to (more or less) trust him and his kin - which is good, because things get even more twisted and dangerous very quickly. By the end of this book (and its companion), the wolves are beginning to understand the form and magnitude of the danger they're in. The next book gives them a framework to hang this understanding on - I've read the woman's book, though not yet the man's. This (these) is a very complicated series, and reading them in (reasonably) quick succession is probably a good idea. show less

I'm glad I read Hope(less) first - I love getting Clay's view on the events, but Gabby has the broader story (how she got involved with the werewolves in the first place, for one thing). However, I'm delighted with this book - it's fascinating seeing the different viewpoint on the same events. The most amusing part, to me, was how Gabby thought Clay had this solid plan for his courtship, and she was trying to figure it out - and here's Clay, trying to decipher what Gabby's plan is for them, show more and reacting to what he thinks he knows. Lovely trick. Honestly, I liked Clay a lot better after I read this - he didn't have nearly as many secrets from Gabby as she thought. All the external events are exactly the same between the books - dialog, action, situations - though they didn't necessarily notice the same things. It's very well done. Glad I read it and I want to read the rest of the series(es). Whether I'll reread...depends on the whole series, I think. But I suspect that this book/these books are going to be ones that permanently affect my worldview... show less

Drivel! Absolute drivel!

"I'd only made it this far because of dumb luck, because of my boobs."

An earthquake causes a zombie apocalypse and also opens up an underground world filled with chisel chested, well-endowed grey men. One of these grey men saves our main character, learns English by listening to steamy audiobooks, and spends the entire book groping her as they make their way through a zombie infested land.

The End.

Book 4 in my Zombie-a-thon!

'Depravity' is so dark, interesting and wonderfully written that it was stupid of me to doubt the author at the beginning. I have only read Winter Queen before this and I haven't read any classic version of Beauty and the Beast; only the disney movie and another retelling of it by Sara J. Maas entitled A Court of Thorns and Roses. Haag's take on Beauty and the Beast will draw you to its unique story and will leave you to wanting for more. I assure you!

While reading through the chapters, I show more have quite a few laughs. I don't know if it was supposed to be funny though and I was so absorbed to this book, flipping through its pages and reading every word eagerly that I didn't even notice the mistakes and finished the book in one sitting! Oh, the last part. It was torture. The cliffhanger was torture. In fact, I thought it was missing a few pages and cursed my Kindle app for being crappy.

The author did a wonderful job on the world building; everything I saw through reading was so clear and well thought throughout. I loved everything although some scenes were slightly disturbing, I loved it nonetheless. Melissa Haag 'owned' it! I even have a book hangover until now!

I will say no more because I'm terrified I might give everything away, but you must know that I highly recommend this book!!

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for a honest review. All opinions are my own.
