- Sybil Dawson, a daughter of Lord Dawson of Penn, married in 1928 the noted British politician and diplomat Sir David McAdam Eccles. The couple had three children. While her husband was abroad on diplomatic missions for the government in Africa, Europe and the USA and serving in World War II, Sybil remained at home in Chute, England, and the couple wrote many letters. Their correspondence was published as By Safe Hand: Letters of Sybil and David Eccles (1983). David Eccles was later created Viscount Eccles. After Sybil's death, he remarried to Mary Hyde, a prominent American collector and scholar of the work of Dr. Samuel Johnson.
