Dark Moon Digest is one of my favorite horror fiction magazines, and this issue delivers everything I've come to expect without any filler! The stories chosen for this issue run the gamut of emotions and moods: creepy, disgusting, funny, holy sh!t, and wtf. Some of them get innovative with narrative forms that resemble old school text games or cable access show scripts, which I loved. There are also a few nonfiction articles that are like cleansing the palate after some of the stories. show more Overall, this issue is a great read for fans of horror and related weird genres. show less
This was a very strong collection and a lot of fun! While there were some forgettable stories, most of them were intriguing and well-written and creepy. The theme was fascinating and I feel like each of the stories tackled it in a different way so the collection didn't feel repetitive or redundant. I also really loved the way it ended...definitely on a very strong note!
The Harvest Killer is murdering men and taking their organs. Detective Balducci, though officially removed from the case, decides to continue investigating and becomes very closely involved.
A word of warning: Dual Harvest contains very graphic scenes of violence and plenty of sex m/f as well as f/f. It is a bit of a mash-up between a psychological thriller and a horror story.
I really enjoyed the plot, and although it was pretty predictable, I wanted to keep reading to see if it all played show more out as I imagined it.
I actually enjoyed the detectives' point of view and the banter between them, which seems to put me in the minority again going by the other reviews. Oh, well.
However, I feel the book could have been better edited/proofread. The language used was repetitive at times (then, then, then...) and so were the thoughts of the characters. There were a lot of details provided for some parts which I felt weren't really necessary but on other parts I would have liked more.
Nevertheless, it was a fun read with some very good dark and gritty elements. 3.5 stars
I have received a copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
