Like many people, when I think of rats, I think of fleas, filth, and the plague.
Imagine if you will, a world where rats do not carry disease, but cure it. Where instead of killing rats as pests they must be preserved because their blood has the power to heal. When these rats go missing from the lab, it first seems that they may have been stolen. But as the body count goes higher, it's clear these rats have had enough of being experimented on. After a while the rat attacks did get a bit show more repetitive for my taste but I did still enjoy the story.
I don't usually get into books about government experiments gone awry, but this had a good Sci-Fi/horror/creature feature vibe to it that held my interest.

“Bedbugs (Can You See Them?)” by L.A. Taylor

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I think that this book may appeal to adult horror and science fiction fans. I rate “Bedbugs” an overall 3 STARS.

Of course I hate bedbugs, I mean who doesn’t right? The very idea of having bedbugs in my bed or anywhere near me is disgusting. So, imagining an army of alien bedbugs that literally tear apart humans and animals when they eat them, that just freaks me out show more completely!
As a reviewer, I feel that it is my responsibility to warn readers about this book. I honestly wish that I got a heads up when starting to read this novel. The very first chapter and opening scene was very shocking to me. The author definitely did a good job of getting a reaction out of the reader, but it personally was disturbing to me. I do not feel that I am giving any actual spoilers, but like I said – a warning. The first chapter is about a small boy that is brutally murdered by bedbugs on his birthday. I understand that children are mainly the ones afraid of the saying, “Goodnight, sleep tight, don’t let the bedbugs bite,” but I think it was a little overboard with the details of this young child’s death. I believe it would not have been that big a deal to me if the boy’s death were more of a statement in the book compared to an actual gruesome scene. I would have dealt better with reading that a young boy died from the bedbugs, if I was learning it from say…a police officer’s statement. In my opinion, it would not have been as offensive if the detailed and brutal murder were that of an adult. However, it just struck me hard reading that scene of this child, maybe especially because I am a mother and an aunty of a boy about the same age.

One thing I thought was a little silly was the names in this novel. They were names that you would expect in a comedy, but “Bedbugs” was clearly a horror novel. However, I do think that L.A. Taylor had a great idea for a horror/science fiction story. If you enjoy gory details…you will definitely get that with “Bedbugs.” The author definitely hit the nail on the head when it came to freaking out the reader. That is what we want in a horror story right? To be scared! So, if you are looking for a scare, then I would recommend checking out “Bedbugs (Can you see them?)” by L.A. Taylor.

“Clifton Falls” by Lee Taylor

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Lee Taylor created a horror story about zombies, with just the right amount of gore. Alongside the gore, there was some humor thrown in. I thought that the gore and humor created a good balance for this zombie tale.

I know there are many zombie books out lately, but when I read paranormal, I tend to read about vampires and werewolves so I enjoyed jumping into this zombie fiction. I liked show more Mr. Taylor’s reason for the dead rising to feed off the living – the fertilizer was a good twist. I also enjoyed how it seemed to have two stories told side by side until they met as one. The pace was set nicely which made it a good read. The action throughout “Clifton Falls” went well with the pace. I would rate Lee Taylor’s novel 3.5 STARS overall.

I thought that a few characters could have been left out of this story completely – or at least not focused on as much. However, that did not take away from me enjoying this tale. I just believe it would be better for the author to be less wordy in future works and to select what is important in the final edit.

As I said, I did enjoy “Clifton Falls” by Lee Taylor. I will be reading more of his books and adding any new ones to my TBR (To Be Read) list. If you are looking for an action filled, gory yet humorous zombie tale, then I suggest giving Lee Taylor’s “Clifton Falls” a try now!
