Leo's dad is a citizen now, which means he's eligible to vote. Leo learns about the process right along with him - how to find their polling place, how to register to vote - though Cousin Ray claims that one vote doesn't matter. Leo's teacher also hosts a mock election (in which one vote DOES matter). Beautifully textured cut paper, oil pastel, and paint illustrations give the pictures a 3D feeling. A great choice leading up to Election Day!

"Sometimes the world big problems can make you feel show more small. But tomorrow I will cast my vote for people who want to change things for the better."

Back matter includes "all about voting" and addresses the question "does one vote matter?" There is also a "How can kids help?" section.

Cute and zany synchronized swimming based adventure, with a surprise giant squid friend arriving at a contentious YMCA-like community center in NYC. Stylized misfits (pigeons, science, synchronized swimming) must pit themselves against 2 mice and the nefarious Steve in order to get their new friends to safety.
One of those picture books that isn't very exciting but it's good for you.

My biggest hope with this book is that even if the kid is bored and tunes out, maybe the adult reading it to them will be like, "Hey, I didn't know that."
This book is such a fun read! This book is about the sheriff (the child whom is the main character) that needs to deliver donuts to his parents. On his way back home from the bakery he eats a donut and feels guilty.
