A rather short, and slightly disturbing story. But written masterfully. Great verisimilitude in the setting of a hedge fund, and in the personality of the fund manager. Even the pseudo-scientific vocabulary spewed in his pitches sound true. And acerbically funny. The moral compromises he makes become slowly apparent, and the other locales and characters are developed naturally and convincingly. A global financial intrigue and something more sinister and something more human all develop show more simultaneously. A fascinating effort. show less
My first book by berberian. A hilarious take on hubris and greed in today's Wall Street told from the perpective of a short-seller. A wonderfully poetic read yet more dry and calculating than maudlin. All the more geramne in the current market downturn.
grouch marx meet karl marx. very funny take on modern finance and the masters of the universe or more like the black holes of the universe. dynamic read.
The language in this book is captivating and it has penetrating psychological insight. It is a very original read, so far, though it was not easy for me to get into. An important document on terrorism from a non-insitutional (literar) perspective, something which is rare in literary fiction. Written pre 9/11
