Unlawful Justice is one of those books that sticks with you for a long time. I had to stop reading a few times because its so emotional. The racial tension, the violence, and the emotional pain is all very real. Sometimes I felt that Liv was too naive. It bordered on annoying. However, it didn't ruin the book for me. Her and Grayson are interesting characters because they simply can't imagine how racist these people they had known forever were. While it would be easy to say "Oh come on! You show more had to know" I think its really honest. Truly you have no idea how some people feel deep down. You don't know what people are really capable of. How many times is there a major event and people go on the news and say things like "I would have never expected this from him/her". So, while their naivety is a bit annoying at times, it is because we, as the reader, are able to see the bigger picture. So, don't go into Unlawful Justice unless you are prepared for some heavy, real topics. Trigger Warning: A character is raped. While the rape is not described, the event is brutal and might be difficult for some to read.
POV: Dual with occasional POV from mystery characters who are revealed later
Tears: Oh yeah...
Triggers: Rape
Cliffhanger: no

I loved Holden and Maddie. It's been a while since I read a book where the two MCs had so much chemistry, and how could I not love a book that mentions my favorite car ever: Eleanor. I keep trying to talk my bf into getting one without much success. Anyway, Holden was amazing. I loved how persistent he was even though Maddie was being b!tchy and refusing to admit there was anything between them. I did get annoyed with her when she refused to talk to him after he dropped the proposal on her. show more I know it seemed a little fast and definitely a lot crazy, but she could have just talked to him about it and said it's too soon but someday. She just kept making everything about them having separate lives, her in Boston, and him in her home town, ignoring the fact that he had said he'd move to Boston to be with her. Communication people! And they both made me mad when she showed up at his place. I get her jumping to conclusions, but she should have talked to him, and he should have just told her whether she wanted to hear it or not. Katy telling Maddie she was being a stupid b!tch, though... hysterical and so true! I felt like I was on the emotional rollercoaster with the characters, and I loved every second of it! I'm anxiously awaiting Katy and Archer's story! show less
This was hard for me to rate. That being said I really liked Madison and Holden, the only thing I didn't love was the insta love. Normally the instalove doesn't bother me. But this one happened so fast that it just didn't sit well with me. I do believe in love at first sight but I think I just needed more interaction between these two aside from sex.

But I will say the chemistry between these two was off the charts! I also did like how Holden put everything out on the table, he didn't hold show more back on what he was thinking or feeling. It was a nice change from the brooding male types that deny how they feel. I also enjoyed the supporting characters as well and am looking forward to Katy and Archer's story! show less
