The lion, the cock and the ass by None

One of Aesop's better fables, and one in which the moral is told well.

"One day as the Lion walked proudly down a forest aisle, and the animals respectfully made way for him, an Ass brayed a scornful remark as he passed.

The Lion felt a flash of anger. But when he turned his head and saw who had spoken, he walked quietly on. He would not honor the fool with even so much as a stroke of his claws."

Moral - Do not resent the remarks of a fool. Ignore them.

Sure, it's tempting to respond to barbs show more and cruel remarks, and in some cases, asses should be called out on being assholes, but in some situations, it's indeed better to dismiss them as the fools they are and give them no satisfaction of a retort. show less

Thumbelina (My Tiny 3-D Series) by None

There once was a seed that was planted and given to a woman who wanted children. The potted seed had been given to the woman by a witch. Out of the seed came a flower, but when the flower bloomed, a beautiful little girl appeared. The girl was named Thumbelina because she was as big as a human’s thumb. One night, a toad was passing by and saw Thumbelina sleeping. She kidnapped her to become a wife for her son. With some help, she had escaped, but she was once again kidnapped, but by a show more beetle. The beetle’s friends did not like how she looked, so he took her back to the forest where he found her. However, there are 2 more times the subject of marriage comes up. Thumbelina goes through the problems of being forced to marry men she does not like, but in the end, she finds a man who she thinks will make a great husband.Thebook is full of adventure, humor, survival, romance, and friendship. This version of Thumbelina was a short version of usual ones, but it has all of the important details from the other versions.

I loved this book! I have always loved the story whether it was Disney or the Tom Thumb and Thumbelina version. I love this book also because of the illustrations. One can tell that these were handmade dolls and possibly other handmade objects that were photographed. When I first saw the cover to this book, the illustration of Thumbelina reminded me of the doll version of the girl in the movie Jack Frost. This book had been handed down throughout my family, so it is a great story, especially for children. This shows children that it does not matter of your size, you still have opinions and choices. This book is considered Traditional Literature because it is a folktale that has been shared around the world and has many versions. This book in particular does not have an author, which maybe the same for the original story.

If I had to use this in a classroom, I would have the children make their own version of the main characters (Thumbelina, Ms. Toad and her son, Beetle, Ms. Field Mouse, Mr. Mole, Swallow, and the King.) with construction paper or newspaper then use string to make them as marionette dolls. On the other hand, I could have them make silhouettes of the characters and each student would have a role and act the role out as shadow puppets. I remember doing the shadow puppets for a Halloween story in the 1st grade. show less

Being an official commemorative issued by the White Sox for their last season in Comiskey. The pictures are great, especially the ones for the other sports and the non-sports events. The few articles are pretty forgettable.
