The Robot God Akamatsu is a graphic novel done in the style of ‘80’s comic books. It has ancient robots, inter-dimensional monsters and feuding gods. That is about as much sense as I could make of the whole thing. The feuding gods caused the annihilation of Atlantis and somehow they are causing trouble again today.
The single biggest question I had is how in the world did the scientists in modern day Boston figure out how to ‘connect’ with the robot god Akamatsu? It was apparently show more needed in order to repulse the new invasion from the evil god.
Maybe the holes will be filled in, in future issues and this is just the way they are planning on telling the story, but a LOT happens and there is a lack of explanation I’m missing, too much in my opinion.
The artwork is very reminiscent of the 1980’s comics and I have to admit, I don’t really like that style myself. This however I know is a personal preference so I don’t hold that against it. For all the things I didn’t like about it, I still gave it a 3.5 stars because I did find it intriguing, enough to be willing to try #2. show less
