Never read this as a kid so it was an absolute pleasure to get lost in this delightful story of orphan Anne Shirley’s life with Matthew and Marilla on their farm, Green Gables. She evolves from the 11 year old chatterbox into the delightful teenager who succeeds at so many things. She is whimsical, irrepressible, emotional, loyal, delightful, frustrating, stubborn, clever, kind and mischievous. Matthew delights in her presence and Marilla grows to lover her deeply.
The writing style is show more lovely with beautiful descriptions of the flora and fauna of Prince Edward Island. show less

Road to Avonlea takes on a more mature tone this season as the characters of Avonlea grow and continue to face overwhelming hardships, as well as pleasant surprises. Sara Stanley shocks Avonlea when she announces she is leaving to study in Paris, and Felicity King finally accepts Gus’s proposal of marriage – only to learn that he is lost at sea.
Sara Stanley (Sara Polley) and her cousins continue to wreak havoc and land in trouble, much to the adults’ dismay and disapproval. The second season is a treasure trove of adventure, mystery, romance, family rivalry and comedy.
Sara has blossomed into an independent and self-assured young lady, but one that still has a penchant for trouble. Now a fully-integrated member of Avonlea society, she begins to think about the day she must leave the security of her new home.
