One of Lovecraft’s best horror stories, illustrated so beautifully by acclaimed painter/artist Francois Baranger it might be one of the finest illustrated books out there (alongside his Call of Cthulhu and At the Mountains of Madness). Already a monstrous, heavily atmospheric story, Baranger’s artwork enhances it further, slowly building the setting and teasing the horror in conjunction with the story until the final climatic madness is brought forth.
Overall an excellent story, one so show more well complimented by the highest possible quality in artwork and so perfectly synced in tone and atmosphere, it is as if the two were conceived side by side. show less

I appreciate the publisher's acknowledgement of Lovecraft's racist views and their renunciation of them.
