This book is the prequel to Winter’s Jessie Black Legal Thrillers. Jessica Black is an Assistant District Attorney for the city of Philadelphia when she finds herself in the midst of a very public scandal. With her heart in her throat she responds to a summons to the DA’s office for what she is sure will be either a formal reprimand or termination. To her surprise the request to meet comes from one of the DA’s top detectives, Isaac Jacoby. He would like her assistance in putting to show more rest the murder of a 7-year-old child that occurred 14 years ago. A witness has come forward, however there is a catch. From this point on, the book takes off like a hunting dog after a rabbit. Winter’s style is approachable. The chapters are short, the action swift, and the eventual denouement quite satisfying. Grave Testimony is not only a well-constructed read but also serves as a brilliant vehicle for introducing/anchoring the Jessie Black series of thrillers. I look forward to reading more from this author. show less
Grave Testimony (A Jessie Black Legal Thriller Prequel) (Jessie Black Legal Thrillers) by Larry A. Winters
I LOVED THIS BOOK. AND I FOUND MYSELF CRYING AT THE BEATING THAT KILLED A SEVEN YEAR OLD BOY THAT TORE HIS REMAINING FAMILY A PART FOURTEEN YEARS AGO! Jessie Black had been in school then and she remembered the gruesome. Now, she had an eye witness, and as an assistant District Attorney she had taken the case despite her recent win that almost caused her to lose her job. This novella had me crying as I pictured the child will stay with me long after I read this book, and I can't wait to read show more more!! show less
Winters’ main character is Jessie Black, a very capable lawyer with the District Attorney's Office in Philadelphia.
After successfully prosecuting a murderer rapist, the case returns when she firstly has to defend the criminal’s defence lawyer and then re-prosecute the killer in a new trial.
This book is a legal thriller at its best with twist and turns in the plot. The impressions you will have of the characters will also change. Don’t take anything for granted in this story.
I thought show more I had it sorted, thought I’d guessed the way the story was heading. Even with my extensive notes on how the characters linked to each other gave me no clue to the ending.
All the characters are believable and Jessie herself is very likable and capable. A series of stories based on her could attract a popular following with readers of this genre.
Winters’ style is clearly descriptive and emotive but not unnecessarily wordy. The only warning I would give is that is does include some coarse language.

I received a free e-copy of this book and have chosen to write an honest and unbiased review. I have no personal affiliation with the author. Wow! This book starts out with a bang and never quits. This is an action packed legal thriller, full of suspense and twists and turns. Jessica Black is a great character with human faults and caring. She works well with Isaac Jacoby on a 14-year-old cold case, the horrific murder of a young boy. He is a stable and steadying force for Jessie. This is a show more great story and well worth the read. I look forward to reading more from Larry Winters in the future. show less
