It's a fun read -- but only if you're looking for tidbits on Whitehead's life. To be fair, I'm certain that's how it was intended to be read: just dip in now and again and emerge with a few anecdotes that will leave you chuckling all day long.

Whitehead is a delight to listen to because he is a gifted story teller, but it's obvious that he is not a writer. There's just too much rambling; too much skipping about, without making any real connections. This approach works very well in the spoken show more voice, but not in the written word.

Read it as a book that you might like to have with your afternoon tea: after a few pages, go away and ponder the delights of a life well-lived. He makes it sound all so easy (even the difficult parts) and one is left feeling that he's a friend we would all like to have.
