- A.E. Via has been a best-selling author in the beautiful gay romance genre for six years now, but she’s no stranger to MM. She’s been an avid reader of gay lit for over fifteen years before she picked up her laptop to place her own kiss on this genre. She’s also the founder and owner of Via Star Wings Books, having published a couple great new up and coming MM authors.
A.E. has a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Virginia Wesleyan College that she used to start her own paralegal firm after she graduated in 2008. She spent five years preparing and filing bankruptcy petitions for struggling blue collar workers who couldn’t afford to file with a lawyer. It was a rewarding and satisfying career… but another path called to her.
Writing.
A.E.’s novels embodies everything from hopelessly romantic to adventure, to scandalous. Her stories often include intriguing edges and twists that take readers to new, thought-provoking depths.
She’s currently celebrating her 20th book anniversary, and is kind of known now for her hardcore, play rough and love hard, bad boy, alphas. However, she does like to push herself to step out of her comfort zone, exploring different tropes, but she won’t push herself into a whole other genre. She’s head over heels for gay romance and she has tons of more hot stories to tell.

In this contemporary action/romance set in an Atlanta PD, we follow the development of Free and Hart’s relationship. Free has lived a life on the run until he landed a job in God and Day’s department. After Hart’s divorce, he became married to his job protecting and serving as a SWAT team Captain. Finding love was the last thing on their minds when they first met, so falling for each other is a surprise that neither expected to face. I wanted to strangle Hart's ex-wife who couldn't show more wrap her head around the word "EX". I can't image why a man like Hart would allow this at all. Aiden Snow did a magnificent job narrating, as he has for the previous five books. I love his voices, and he does a good job of keeping them unique. One of the parts of this book that I thought stood out from some others that I've read including this series, that is very often passed over or not mentioned at all, is that men can also be the victims of abuse, both verbal and/or physical. A.E Via not only included it in this story, but she not only did a fantastic job...she did it with a great deal of tact. We can see the aftermath of how it affected Hart despite his physical appearance of being a tall, broad and commanding presence...how his psyche was shattered from the verbal abuse from his ex-wife. It was a great way of showing that anybody can become a victim regardless of their outer appearance or their characteristics. I also liked how mild manner Free gave the slimy homophobic Vasquez something else to think about other than running down a way of life that he doesn't personally approve of. show less
Where to begin...I did end up finishing the book despite the really random foursome scene that came out of nowhere. It felt awkward because I can't imagine who would want to have a foursome with their coworkers. I also was super confused by Godfrey's many names (Cash, Cashel, God) and kept having to remind myself that they were the same person. Speaking of God, that's a horrible nickname to have and he should have just gone by Cash. Nothing is more awkward than reading gay sex scenes and show more imaging God with a white beard and godly powers. Speaking of Cashel, even though he had been through some horrible things, his behavior with Day was borderline abusive in some instances. More problematic than that is that he just writes it off by saying things like "you know I love you" or "I apologized already so get over it". Major red flags for that and I almost felt bed that Day was with him and wanted him to leave. show less
Wow, just wow! A.E. Via knocks it out of the park AGAIN.
The characters I love are back and I fell in love with two more. It was also great to get a glimpse of Ty and Kell in action. I definitely haven't gotten enough of them yet.
I hope we see Ex and Meridian again. Their chemistry was off the charts. I expected them to join God and Day's team but I am satisfied with how it ended. I'm curious about how their day-to-day will look now.
Hopefully we will get to see Vasquez get what's coming to show more him. He's been a pain in the ass since we first met them.
I loved the bonus chapters. When Green was being held at gunpoint, I could feel what Ruxs was going through...his pure agony. It was nice to see such a realistic conclusion to their story and to see that side of both of them.
This might be my favorite of the series. The multilayered characters and tight writing always make A.E. Via's stories ones I can't put down and at the time, ones I don't want to end. I guess a good thing is I haven't read all of her books yet. show less

Just go ahead and move this up to #1 on your TBR list. Big mistake to start it at 9pm as I did...I just finished it, and it's well past 3am ;)
This is an amazing and emotional book. I felt deep, deep rage at the unfairness of the beginning. I loved how the story was fleshed out, instead of just having a short intro and skipping ahead a bunch of years like most stories do, Llew's story is told fully surrounding the incident (no spoilers), his time in prison is explored, and then his story show more afterward is given to us. I love how it was all put together, and my heart was with Llew every step of the way.
Shane, I loved Shane, too. He believed in Llewell from their first meeting, and he was just what Llew needed to come back into himself. Plus, he was a firecracker when standing up for him *chuckles as eyes go dreamy*
I (read: my anger) was satisfied with how everything turned out, and by the time the end came around I was walking on high clouds. Not that I wanted the book to end. Is there a sequel in the works? Just wondering. Hint, hint. Nudge, nudge. Loiters in the author's driveway being pushy.
Another thing is that I really, really want to read Robert and Jessup's whole story. I know the basic outline, but I want details, 'cause those two are hawt! And forbidden relationships are totally my cup of tea...more not-so-subtle hinting and nudging and persistent loitering.
Anyway, Llew and Shane were super hot too, all kinky and delicious and perfect together. And sweet as the pie they ate on several occasions. The only down point was that the resolution of Llew's psychological problems and its results was brought about way too easily. But, *shrugs* I'll take it, it didn't detract from the story. Lastly, some editing would not go amiss, but that wasn't all that bad, either.
In a few words: buy this now. Really, start reading now. It's golden stuff :D show less
