One hundred years ago this month the SS Metagama left the Isle of Lewis with three hundred emigrants bound for Canada. This is their story.

The book is split into three sections. The first fifty pages is a resumé of emigration from Lewis and its relationship to the land question. In the next fifty pages, the second section chronicles events immediately before, during and after the Metagama emigration. The next 90 pages or so comprises a series of interviews allowing some of the, then, show more surviving emigrants and others a chance to tell their own personal stories. This section includes three interesting interviews carried out by the Comunn Eachdraidh Nis (The Ness History Society) which are in their native Gaelic. The final pages contain appendices such as passenger lists etc.

A well put together book which is very readable as well as informative. I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in history and especially anybody who has Lewis connections.
