The Voyages of the Limping Flamingo. Written and illustrated by Neil Jones. Introducing the Poggy people. A tale by Neil Jones
I discovered this book through a friend who is lucky enough to have a copy. She let me read it and I am so glad that she did. Jones has written a hilarious story of a boy's adventures on board his ship - The Limping Flamingo. One of my favourite lines - 'The assistant produced another photograph. "This," he said, "is a very good boat. It is the S.S. Limping Flamingo."
"Too big!"
Patiently the assistant produced a smaller photograph of the Limping Flamingo, which he handed to Fred.
"Much show more better," said Fred. "I'll buy it!" - comes early on and from then onwards I was hooked.
The author was just 14 years old when he wrote this book in 1962 and doesn't appear to have written any more after this astoundingly humorous adventure story. I have found out that his sister is the very talented author Geraldine McCaughrean. If you are ever fortunate enough to come across this book then snap it up, because it is a real treasure. show less
