This is the story of Benedict's coming of age and his efforts to discover who killed a popular girl in the town of Berwick, a town on the border of Scotland and England and fought over several times over it's time and at one stage being it's own independent place. This is during one of those contested times during the medieval era that this story is set and Benedict is dealing with a lot of bits and pieces. He was going to be a religious man so he has reading and writing skills.
