From Dominance to Disappearance: The Indians of Texas and the Near Southwest, 1786-1859 by F. Todd Smith
This book contains very detailed history of Texas during the period it covers, 1783 through 1859. Although a little of the lifestyles are covered, the author focuses on where the different Indian grous were present during each decade and what their numbers were. The author also focuses on agreements between the Indians and verious entities such as Mexico, the United States, Texas Republic, and even various Indian Agents, as well as amongst the different Indian tribes.
According to the author, show more all those agreements ultimately failed, usually after only months or a couple of years. The result of the failed agreements was the long term trend of dissappearnce.
So for me, the book was quite grim.
There are no photos and just a handfull of simple maps showing the locations during different time periods of both European and Indian settlements.
The index is good and there are extensive references at the end of the book. show less
