I'm becoming quite fond of John Kovalic's "Dork Tower" strip, about the geeky "adventures" of a group of semi-adult gamers. Uneven, but often the humor is dead-spot-on, and I quite like the artwork. This one has some additional intrigue in the form of a revived romance between Matt and ex-girlfriend-from-hell Kayleigh, just as he meets Gilly, who would otherwise be the girl of his dreams. There are also a few nicely-done strips reacting to 9/11. I'm not quite as keen on the jams by guest show more artists. Nothing against them; it's just that more guest artists equal less Kovalic. show less
A quite good and funny (if uneven) comic strip that centers around the lives of Matt, Igor and Carson, housemates who share a love of role-playing games, comic books, science fiction, and all the other pop thingies that define today's dork. The art is casually accomplished, and the humor wends between physical humor and subtle wit - sometimes in the same cartoon. And there is often a continuity that pervades the strip, sometimes about the romantic misadventures of our dorkish friends. Not show more every strip is a hit, but even the misses aren't half bad, and I quite like this strip. show less
It is nice to follow the adventures of Matt, Carson the Muskrat, Gilly, Ken, Igor etc. The geekery of this book is self-explanatory by the book's front cover, and readers should not expect less from this volume 7 from the series of Dork Tower adventures. If you are a techie, a RPG buff, a gamer or a goth, you may find that you relate to one of the characters, and you may even love them all in the end. Highly likeable, this book is great entertainment and is well worth the purchase. You will show more find that John Kovalic's humour may lift your mood, in a light and cheerful way, so you should treat yourself to a little bit of sunshine! show less
Another good collection of John Kovalic's quirkily humorous portrayals of gaming nerds (also sci-fi, fantasy and technology nerds). My favorite strip here is on pg. 68, in which Igor carries a stack of books to sell to the used book store, citing a desperate need for space and money. A few panels later, he returns with an even larger stack and a woebegone look on his face, saying "I need professional help...". I can relate.
