About the Author
Joanna Waley-Cohen is Professor of History at New York University and Dean of Arts and Sciences for NYU-Shanghai. She received her BA and MA degrees in Chinese Studies from Cambridge University and her PhD in History from Yale University, where she worked with Yu Ying-shih and Jonathan Spence. Her show more earlier books include Exile in Mid-Qing China: Banishment to Xinjiang, 17581820 (1991) and The Sextants of Beijing: Global Currents in Chinese History (1999). show less
