The book "Baba Yaga" is about a girl who's unlike by the maid at her house so the maid send her away so she could get eaten by a witch Baba Yaga. But because of her kindness and helping other, she escape the witch and she use the resource she get to help herself. I really like this book because even thought I might not understand some of the vocabulary in the book but it easy to follow and I understand what going on. learning about other country folktale is a good way I would use it to my show more teaching. I think 4th-6th grader would be able to read and follow along the story line but not elementary kids because it is long and there some difficult words to read/understand. show less
Katrina is sent off by the housemaid to her sick aunt's house in the woods to deliver a basket. Along the way she escapes the feared witch Baba Yaga with the help of the gifts and advice of the gate, dog, and cat. I love this tale for its detailed and extremely suspenseful plot. This book might be too frightening for the primary grades, but would be very suitable for a 4th or 5th grade classroom to learn more about the traditional Russian tale and to further explore the theme of reciprocity: show more helping others and they will help you. show less
This book is one that teaches us that bad things often happen to good people, but they don't always last very long. We follow a child who has been sent into the witches grasp by a hateful housemaid. The girl finds some unlikely friends along the way, who help her later to escape the witch. The witch at the end gets her dues and the housemaid is fired due to her hateful actions. This story was one of my favorites! It definitely helps when the storyteller is as engaged in the story as the show more audience is! Recommended for later elementary school aged children. show less
This is a predictably fun children's book by Margaret Yatsevitch Phinney. She writes about a witch on an eerie night who gathers monsters along the way as they head to Thunder Mountain for a party. This big is full of fun rhyming and repetition, so it's great for young elementary children.
