This is the most comprehensive and detailed guide to Brussels that is readily available in English. It has the most detailed maps and the most background material on Brussels and Belgium, including a history of Belgium, an art history of the region and a succint explanation of Belgium's ever contentious political topic - French vs. Flemish.

Of course, what one gains in detail one pays back in bulk; this will just fit in a pocket of my overcoat, which is fine at the time of writing but will be show more awkward come summer. show less
After reading half a dozen travel guides via the library, this is the only one I bought and brought with me. Not the best one for pre-planning your itinerary (I still like DK for that) but it worked the best for actual schlepping around town for reference.
I checked out and surveyed every book on Scotland my library had before purchasing the One Book that would guide us through our trip. This was my favorite of the lot by a good measure. It was terribly handy in helping us plan our travels and assisted us greatly in filling our down time, even in the more remote areas we visited.
For me, visiting New York for the first time, this edition of rough guide wasn't complete enough.
-I found out (for instance) there are way more and better discount stores than mentioned (unfortunately on the last day of my visit)info seems random
-some suggestions for walking tours would have been convenient
-background information was great
