What cracked me up about this book was that they didn't even try figure out some story to get us into why Lex is going after Superman. They just drop us into the story where Lex is nearly ready to trap Superman in a horrible place for him so that Lex can get his revenge on the hero.
Of course, while Lex is focusing on the big pictures, aka, hurting Superman. The runoff from his Kryptonite weapon is slowly but surely causing a small part of the picture to get much bigger.
A fun look at the show more Villain, Lex Luthor. show less

America's Next Top Model: Fierce Guide to Life: The Ultimate Source of Beauty, Fashion, and Model Behavior by J. E. Bright
America's Next Top Model is one of my campy tv pleasures. I don't watch it all the time, but it's a good show to watch with friends. I really sort of hoped this book would be a similar silly pleasure. And it's not a terrible book; it actually has some decent advice if you're planning to get into modeling (or so I assume, I have no idea what modeling entails other than what I've seen on the show).
My problem with the book is that I wanted to be able to recommend it for teen girls. And I show more just... can't. It's clearly aimed at them, and I can't imagine that most of the information in it would be useful to anyone else. I also understand that it's a guide to how to be a model, thus not aimed at all teen girls. But I can't see myself ever reccing something that emphasizes traditional beauty standards so strongly.
I was a total bundle of awkward when I was a teenager, and a book that spells out exactly how not skinny enough, not pretty enough, and not hairless enough my body type is would have made me feel awful about myself. Not to say that I wouldn't have picked it up as a teen, and if a girl wants to read it I wouldn't try to dissuade her, but there's no way I'm gonna be comfortable telling a teenager to read something that might make her feel like she is anything less than awesome just the way she is. Girls and women get enough of that from the media on a daily basis without my help.
All that said, it gets two stars because I totally laughed out loud at the facial exercises page. show less

This was a cute book. I hadn't known that Capstone (the publisher of other hilarious DC fiction/comics for the younger generation) had these simple chapter books. And while of course, it's not the epitome of storytelling, it's still a pretty solid story, and a cute one as well.
I wasn't sure how the author was going to address the fact that Catwoman is one of the most in the grey characters of the Bat-Family world, and I thought that Bright did it very well. The story starts with Catwoman show more wanting to steal some very shiny baubles from a certain bird, and it goes from there.
One thing that really surprised me was the ending. I thought I knew how it was going to end, after all, I'm an adult and this book is technically meant for kids, and yet I was happily surprised by the twist at the ending. I also liked seeing the illustrations as well, they were classic, and in some places where the narrative description wasn't totally understandable the pictures helped a lot. show less

Um, Rainbow Raider? I’m pretty sure that I’ve never heard of him before, although it says in the back that he’s one of the Rogues?
I was also given pause when the story indicated that Iris knew Barry was the Flash, because in a previous book in this series she didn’t know. Not sure what’s going on there.
The story itself was interesting. Barry again used his mind as well as his speed to defeat the Rainbow dude.
And as an added bonus, heh, this has a particle accelerator in it too. show more Very cool. show less
