This moving story was a bit of a continuation of Cadet's first book, Restavek. There is much overlap with Restavek. If I had to choose reading one or the other, I would choose this one. It covers Cadet's early years as a slave in Haiti and adjustment to life in the US in a briefer form than the first book, then goes on to describe how he found and followed his life's calling. Heartbreaking and inspirational all at once. A call to action.
A moving true story, this was difficult to get through in a way, because of the heartbreaking things the author has been through.
